2007 Merlot
While the 2006 vintage of JM Merlot garnered national praise from the press (91 and 90 points from Enthusiast and Spectator respectively), we are confident that the 2007 vintage is even more noteworthy.
Merlot remains my favorite Washington State varietal. Blending with other varietals can offer dramatic results, yet the depth of flavors found in Washington State Merlot when aged on its own continues to impress me.
The 2007 vintage of JM Merlot was made with fruit from three spectacular Red Mountain vineyards; Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun and Kiona (old vine). This vintage is particularly rich showing classic Red Mountain flavors of Bing Cherry and dark fruit. With approachable tannins that are still prominent enough to ensure that the wine will lay down for a minimum of 10 years, the 2007 JM Merlot demonstrates why wine made with Red Mountain fruit has amassed such positive acclaim.
