Early Spring Greetings JM Fam,

As I write this from the Bramble Bump, the season is just beginning to turn. The magnolias, daffodils and Japanese maples are starting to bloom, and by the time you read this, the property will be in full color, one of the best times of year to visit.

As we move through our 28th year, I’ve been reflecting on how lucky we are to do this work. Each vintage brings something different, shaped by the conditions of the season. The 2023 reds in this release began with a cool, wet winter and developed into a near perfect growing season, with most fruit harvested by the end of September. It is a beautiful vintage, one I am especially excited to share with you. You can view the wines included in this release, here.

Great wines in Washington are shaped by a few key things. Weather sets the stage, but it’s observation that guides us. When I first planted Margaret’s Vineyard, I was told the best compost was “your shadow,” a reminder to spend time in the vineyard, watching and listening to what the vines need. I still begin each visit by walking the rows and taking it all in.

Of course, none of this happens without people. We have been fortunate to work alongside an incredible team in both the vineyard and the cellar, and I’m proud to see their work reflected in the wines.

Farming thoughtfully is also a big part of what we do. In Washington, we’re fortunate to have access to water, something not all wine regions in the world can say. With rivers and aquifers across the region, we’re able to care for the vines with intention. Using drip irrigation, we can deliver just what the vines need, when they need it, allowing us to respond to each growing season while using relatively little water compared to other agricultural crops.

I may be biased, but I believe this is one of the best places in the world to grow grapes. Every vintage tells a story of the year it came from, and I am beyond proud of each one we release.

We’re always thinking about our Wine Club members and how to make your experience with JM feel meaningful. At its core, wine is about sharing, and we’ve recently refreshed our member benefits with that in mind, including extending your member savings to private gatherings at JM. We hope these savings on our venues and wines offer you more opportunities to enjoy JM properties beyond our standard tasting experiences.

Thank you, as always, for being part of JM Cellars. I look forward to seeing you at the release party and will have a little something special for you to try.

Cheers,
