We’ve crafted Cinsault Red off and on for the past decade, and it remains a perennial favorite. Sourced from a 1.7-acre block perched on one of the fractured basalt benches of Wallula Gap Vineyard, these mature grapes overlook the Columbia River and deliver remarkable character. At the winery, they’re foot-stomped whole cluster and fermented in stainless steel for twelve days before aging in mostly once-used barrels for twelve months. Pale ruby in color, the wine surprises with aromas and flavors of fresh blueberry, wild rosemary, and brambly red fruit, layered with a subtle savory note. Soft tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven backbone bring balance and finesse—making this wine a joy to drink now and one to cellar through 2035 (or beyond). It also makes a wonderfully refreshing chilled red for warmer seasons, offering a vibrant and versatile option for spring and summer sipping.
The name Las Piedras is Spanish for “the stones”. Our estate vineyard, the stunning Margaret’s Vineyard, is located on a north slope, rising 1,200 feet above the valley floor in the Walla Walla Valley AVA. The southwest corner of Maragaret’s Vineyard is essentially all fractured basalt with very little topsoil. We planted Syrah and Mourvèdre in this location, and the calcium carbonate found in the fractured basalt translates into a beautiful minerality in the wine. The three components of this classic GSM blend contribute to an inviting and layered experience. Grenache from Ciel du Cheval Vineyards, in the heart of the Red Mountain AVA, brings bright, fruity freshness with flavors and aromas of dark cherry and raspberry. Margaret’s Vineyard Syrah adds depth of character, a rich softness mid-palate, and a memorable finish with subtle notes of black spice. Margaret’s Vineyard Mourvèdre is jammy and juicy with a mid-palate of dark cherry and cacao. Mourvèdre possesses an earthy minerality, shaping the backbone of the wine. We think this GSM blend is yummy and one of our very best wines to date, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Inspired by our picturesque Woodinville property in name, John’s vision to craft exceptional "house" wines at great value continues with the 2022 BBR. Each year, after the winemaking team crafts our premium blends, we are left with a surplus of exceptional wine that didn’t quite fit into the final proportions of our signature blends. As a team, we blend those delicious remaining barrels of wine and create Bramble Bump Red. If you are a fan of Tre Fanciulli, you are going to love this vintage of Bramble Bump Red. The 2022 vintage is Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Dark, rich, and full of bramble berry flavors with a hint of baking spices, this is a great everyday drinker. But, if you like to age your red wines this one will cellar beautifully.
Perhaps the wine that best summarizes John’s winemaking style and commitment to family, each vintage of Tre Fanciulli is truly a special wine. An Italian expression meaning “three treasured boys”, Tre Fanciulli is aptly named in honor of John and Peggy’s three beloved sons – Jack, Tommy & Joe – and each son represents a grape variety in the blend. The 2022 vintage is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 23% Syrah and is composed of 100% Red Mountain fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon from Shaw Vineyard and Merlot and Syrah from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard create a premium red blend expressing aromas of vanilla and cherry and features an incredible balance of bold red fruit, approachable tannins, and a savory, rich finish.
Showcasing fruit from three of Washington’s most notable vineyards, Ciel du Cheval, Champoux, and Stillwater Creek Vineyards, the 2022 Old Vine Syrah is a luscious, full-bodied Syrah. This vintage represents some of the most delicious and timeless Syrah grown across three different AVA’s of the Columbia Valley. In the Rhône tradition, John co-fermented the Syrah with 3% Viognier. A process known as co-pigmentation produces a deep purple wine with lingering dark cherry aromas. The 2022 Old Vine Syrah is delicious now and will continue to age well over the next decade and longer. The bold, blue fruit flavors of blueberry, plum, and mountain huckleberry transition into a robust, spicy mid-palate, lingering toward a memorable finish. The Old Vine Syrah pairs well with rich cuts of meat, wild mushrooms, and international rice and noodle dishes. Raise a glass on its own for a truly indulgent treat, or share a bottle around the table with loved ones.
